It's been awhile...

Which in the world of ugly diseases can be either a good thing or a bad. In my case that is good. I mean I have my days where there is an ache in head, sometimes a throb, but the pain in manageable! I just had a check-up this last month with the pain management dr and all is well! Our course of action seems to be working!

I asked her once again is it ok that I take 2-4 Excedrin Tension a day?? She said yes! She said that is why I check your liver every 6 months. She told me that I really needed to pay attention to what caused my headaches. I know what they are:
Lack of sleep- can't control I have way to much to do and not enough in the world to do it.
Weather- can't control when it is going to rain
Stress- can't control who is going to make me angry in a given day

The one thing she did say that would help me is to take more time for myself... really I have 2 jobs, 2 kids and a husband and where do I find that???

All in all things are going good on managing this ACM1 and the longer I can hold off on surgery the better!!

Hi, my name is Rick Barber and my son passed away from complications from Arnold Chiari Malformation Type 1 on March 29, 2008. He was 8 years old.

I am telling you this because tonight on Dr. G Medical Examiner, a television show on the Discovery Health Channel (9pm EST), they are doing half of the show about our son's condition and sudden death.

We had no idea he had this condition, his doctor did, but did not tell us. We agreed to do the program to bring awareness to others about this condition.

Please feel free to contact us anytime at my personal email. RBuffordTJ@yahoo.com

I'm sure you already know this, but are you taking Pril.osec or Nex.ium every day, too? That amount of aspi.rin on a daily basis can result in stomach ulcers and GI issues. I only speak from experience.

I am also dealing with a doc who refuses to accept that my headaches are related to Chiari. It's incredibly frustrating (and painful, too). I am seriously contemplating surgery, and I'm trying to weigh out the pros and cons. Good luck with your decisions!

Marla, I take a 14 day round every couple of months and that seems to work and then when heartburn rears its ugly head I just get another round. I meant to talk to the dr about getting on some prescriptions....

I was looking through the blogs and came upon yours. It is very interesting reading! I had the endoscopic decompression done two years ago. I was out of the hospital in less than 24 hrs. I am NOT a zipperhead. If you are considering surgery, check out my blog:

Thank you,
